WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THERAPY
GENERAL COUNSELING
Some people believe that therapy is reserved for those who have experienced deep hurt or mental illness. OR, there is the belief that if you do pursue therapy, something must be "wrong" with you. That just is not true. Often times, people use therapy to work toward enhancing an already good life. . I love providing people with the opportunity to explore their histories, minds, present day, future goals, and more. There is no topic too small!
DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY
Depression and anxiety impact so many individuals on many different levels. I provide a safe and welcoming space to share your thoughts and worries. My aim is to instill hope in your life and help you find meaning. Together, we may challenge some of your beliefs if they seem to be holding you back. We could come up with goals to pursue outside of session in order to face fears head on. We may also explore new ways of coping with sadness, apathy, guilt, or worry day to day.
EATING DISORDER TREATMENT
If you are thinking about exploring your relationship with food and body, or if you would like to begin and maintain recovery from an eating disorder, I am ready to support you. We will explore the development of the eating disorder and the purpose it serves. Furthermore, we will identify how your thoughts impact your behaviors with food and your relationship with your body. We will look at how the eating disorder has served you well and how it no longer serves you, focusing on ways to replace its former purpose. Most importantly, you set the goals and pace for your work. Recovery is possible!
SUBSTANCE USE AND ADDICTION
If you are ready to explore your relationship with substances such as alcohol, marijuana, pills, or other recreational drugs, I'm prepared to support you. It can be a difficult and vulnerable experience, exploring your relationship with a substance, and I intend to provide you with a non-judgmental space. Not many people begin their substance use with the intention of these substances impacting their lives negatively one day. We can explore the development of your substance use, the purpose it serves, "harm reduction" behaviors, or what life may look like without using. It is truly up to you to decide what changes you are ready to make and I intend to support you through this process.
TRAUMA WORK
*I offer EMDR Therapy*
Healing from trauma can be delicate work to pursue. In my experience with treating trauma, I have helped individuals tell their stories while minimizing reactions such as dissociations and flashbacks. As the story unfolds, we have worked to analyze the details and "rewrite the narrative." I utilize grounding techniques throughout session to help individuals stay present. Most importantly, you will never need to revisit something you do not feel ready for. Instead, we will focus on ways to help you heal and cope in the present day, and perhaps explore the fears related to revisiting the trauma.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
&
SOCIAL ANXIETY
Community and connection are essential for one's well being. Should you be struggling with relationships, whether they be family, romantic, or platonic, I would love to support you. It can be painful, or even infuriating, to struggle with interpersonal relationships. I will provide you space to share your experiences, feelings, and thoughts. Together, we could even take a closer look at how one could improve these relationships by enhancing communication and listening skills and increasing validation. It is possible fear is keeping you from making meaningful connections with others. Social anxiety is common and the therapeutic relationship is a wonderful one to use to explore and challenge these fears.
